Our annual primary 6-a-side football tournament took place on Saturday, 6 October. A big thank you to Mr Ashton from Warwick Bridge School for organising the tournament. Sixteen teams from thirteen of our feeder schools participated in two competitions: one for large schools and another for small schools. Each competition followed a round robin tournament before the top four teams played against each other in a semi-final, with the winners from these games going through to a final.
In the large school tournament, the first semi-final was between Warwick Bridge and Crosby, with Warwick Bridge winning 2-1. The second semi-final took place between Longtown A and Hayton, with Longtown A winning 2-1. The final was a very competitive match, with Longtown becoming the large schools tournament winners with a 2-0 victory.
In the small schools tournament, the first semi-final was between Great Corby and Castle Carrock. Great Corby won this game 2-0, putting them through to the final. The second semi-final involving Shankhill and Hallbankgate finished 3-0 to Shankhill. The final between Great Corby and Shankhill was very close with both teams looking like potential winners. However, Shankhill managed to score a goal in the last 10 seconds of the game to become tournament winners.
Well done to all teams; it was a fantastic morning of football. The referees from William Howard School also deserve a huge thank you!
