To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, the History Department invited Janine Webber, a Holocaust survivor, into school to speak to our History students in Year 10. It was Janine’s fourth visit to the school and it is always a great privilege to welcome her back.
Mrs Webber and her family were Polish Jews who faced persecution throughout WWII. Discrimination and anti-Semitism forced her into the ghettoes and into periods of hiding. The students listened with great respect to her moving account before asking Janine their many questions.
Her testimony can be read on the HET website: https://www.het.org.uk/survivors-janine-webber
The visit is part of the Holocaust Educational Trust’s extensive Outreach Programme. Sunday, 27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day, a day which marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest of the Nazi death camps.
