A House Tournament to Remember!

WHAT A DAY! The timetable was given over for a whole school House Tournament today with students competing in an assortment of sporting and non-sporting competitions to gain points for their House.

Indoor activities ranged from escape rooms to biscuit decorating; a dance off to quizzes; board and card games, a flight challenge and a game off. Outside we had a range of sports themed competitions from our PE Department, a penalty shoot-out and football darts – all ably manned by our fancily-dressed Sixth Form students.

Alongside this, we had Penrith Mountain Rescue running a stretcher challenge, building on teamwork skills; a Rodeo Ride for Year 10 students to see who could stay on the longest; and Year 9 students took part in VR challenges to test their nerve. Serenity Beauty also came in to run a nail design competition. Three of the external visitors who ran these activities are alumni of William Howard and it was great to welcome them back.

In the final hour of the day, all the students and staff were arranged on the sports field for an end of year aerial photograph, skilfully taken by Ms Pigdon and her drone.

A gentle shower of rain didn’t dampen spirits as the last competitive races were ran – a sprint, skipping, egg and spoon and relay (who know Mrs Nettleton could skip so well?). Finally, the moment came for Mr McAree to announce the 2022 winner of the WHS House Cup… Congratulations to Acacia!

The day had a strong community spirit and the students enjoyed each challenge they faced, demonstrating our key values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. An enormous well done to all the students who took part in the day with great humour and enthusiasm and thank you to all the Sixth Formers, staff and visitors who supported the magnificent day. A job well done Mrs Hill!

Sixth Formers Will Carswell and Grace Elder spent the day compiling film footage of the fun, so watch this space for the release of the video!
