Our Alumna of the Month for May is Emily Nicholson (now Brown).
Emily left William Howard School in 2013 after her A Levels with the ambition to become an Adult Nurse. She studied locally at the University of Cumbria and completed a year of their course “Working with Children and Families”, where she gained the extra UCAS points she needed to begin her Adult Nurse training in 2014.
Emily qualified in 2017 and has worked as a Staff Nurse ever since. She is currently a Staff Nurse in the Endoscopy Unit at the Cumberland Infirmary and says “It is the most amazing job.”
Emily really enjoyed her time at William Howard and her favourite lessons were ICT and Science, both of which play a vital part of her job now.
A message to current students of William Howard from Emily is: “Stick in and do the work. You may feel adulthood and careers are a lifetime away, but they are closer than you think. Don’t look back at this time and wish you worked harder. Competition to get into university is higher than ever and the harder you work at school; the more opportunities will be available for you in the future. People always used to say to me school is the best time of your life and I used to laugh. But school really was the best time of my life, and I would love to come back for a day! I wish you all the best in your futures!”
If you’re a past student, we’d love to hear what you are doing now to help inspire and encourage our current students. Please visit https://williamhoward.fireflycloud.net/alumni/alumni-form, so we can keep in touch.
