Dear Parent
As explained in my letter dated 20 January 2023, the National Education Union (NEU), in accordance with the provisions of the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1992, are calling upon their members to strike. The proposed industrial action will take place on Tuesday, 28 February, and Wednesday, 15 March and Thursday, 16 March 2023.
To determine if there will be the need for a full or partial closure on some or all of these days, we have undertaken a Risk Assessment and I am writing to confirm our arrangements for Tuesday, 28 February 2023, which will remain the same as the previous strike day.
William Howard School will be open to Vulnerable Groups, Years 11, 12 and 13 only on Tuesday,
28 February 2023. Remote learning will be set through our VLE for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 and students are to access the tasks and learning for the day in the usual way (Remote Learning Guide). Years 7, 8 and 9 will be set work in English, Maths, Science, Languages and PD. Year 10 will be set work in Maths, English, Science, PD and some Option Subjects. Please encourage your child to complete all of the work set; if there are any access issues students are asked to contact the relevant Year Group Team before the end of this half term.
If you are classed as a critical worker, and despite best efforts are set to experience childcare issues on 28 February 2023, please contact the school reception on 016977 45700 to see if any extraordinary provision can be made.
We appreciate that industrial action is disruptive, and you may need to change your plans or working arrangements whilst this action is ongoing. We will, of course, continue to monitor the arrangements in place and make modifications to improve support for students, wherever possible. However, ensuring the health and safety of our students must take priority.
As previously mentioned, we will treat the strikes as individual instances and will, therefore, make a decision and inform parents no later than one week prior to each of the proposed strike dates. Consequently, we will be communicating the implications of the next proposed strike date of Wednesday, 15 March 2023, by Wednesday, 8 March 2023.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Yours faithfully
Ms K Pigdon
