Groups of students are getting on their bikes this week for some Level 3 Bikeability training sessions, delivered by Cyclewise.
The ‘Bikeability’ training scheme is an up-to-date version of the old Cycling Proficiency course and is designed to give children the necessary skills and confidence to ride their bikes safely on today’s roads. www.bikeability.org.uk
“Years 7, 8 and 9 were offered places and due to the high take up, four days of training have been put on,” said WHS PE Curriculum Lead, Mr Green.
Nick and Rich from Cyclewise Training Ltd have come along to provide the training on behalf of Cumberland Council. They said “Many children do Bikeability training at primary school but it’s really useful to have a refresher, particularly on roads that are busier than the quiet village roads they are probably used to.”
Funding from the Department of Transport has enabled the training to be delivered free of charge.
