Ten students from WHS attended the County Boccia Championships at Kendal Leisure Centre on Wednesday, 20 November. We entered two teams, one in the physical disability division and one in the PAN division – both teams played really well. We also took along two students as officials.
Thomas Armstrong, Oliver Wightman and Connor Dixon competed in the Physical Disability Division of the competition. They played against teams from three other schools – Ullswater Community College, Trinity and Mayfield. All the teams involved played each other twice over the course of the day. The William Howard team lost their opening match but went on to win their other five matches convincingly and were hence crowned County Champions for the third year running. This is an amazing achievement and a well-deserved one after all their training together. They will now go on to represent Cumbria at the North West Regional Boccia Championships in Liverpool in February. Well done Boys!
Our PAN team are quite new to Boccia and for most of them this was their first competition. They played really well and enjoyed themselves but unfortunately, they didn’t progress beyond the first round on this occasion. With more training they will do well in the future. Well done to Jake Thorburn, Evie Matthews, Andrew Kyle (Captain), Isaac Knibbs and Leon Thorburn.
Well done also to Heathcliff Stone and Tom Harmer who worked with a team of officials to help make the day a success.
