We extended National Careers Week in March to cover the entire month! Here’s a summary of our recent celebration of careers guidance:
- A Year 9 careers event was held to support the students’ GCSE option process.
- A representative from Oxford University came along to talk to Year 10 and 12 students about how to apply to university.
- Year 12 and 13 Business students celebrated their Dream Placements at a ceremony at Energus in West Cumbria. One of our students, Arvin Parmer, shadowed Carlisle MP and solicitor John Stevenson. He found the experience allowed him to clearly focus and plan his future career path.
- In assemblies, WHS Careers Lead, Mrs Hill spoke about Cumbria Day and the skills gaps and careers available in our local area.
- Teaching staff displayed their career paths on their classroom doors, highlighting the various pathways they took to become a teacher, with some interesting jobs along the way.
- A new display has been created in school, featuring the number of people in the public eye that have links with our local area.
Key careers events coming up include the Year 7 and 8 Careers Day on Monday 29th April and Year 12 Work Experience week (1-5 July).
