Today is World Book Day so we celebrated the joy of reading by having a ‘get comfy and read’ themed day.
Students and staff arrived in school dressed in comfy clothing ready with their books.
Extra opportunities for quiet reading were provided and the whole school shared a gripping story “The Hitchhiker” by Anthony Horowitz, whereby five-minute instalments were read at the beginning of each lesson, so by the end of the day everyone had heard the full tale with its surprising twist at the end.
The Big Book Swap, where unwanted books could be donated and exchanged, proved popular and staff had been challenged to send in photos of themselves enjoying some quite reading time away from the classroom.
In the Library, the annual Spellbinding Reading Challenge was launched for keen readers from Years 7, 8 and 9. Students will be reading, reviewing and star-rating the 10 pre-selected titles, with the ultimate goal to select the best novel of 2024.
A special WBD quiz was available with names of famous book characters scrambled up for students to decipher, and £1 WBD vouchers were distributed to all Year 7 and 8 students.
You’re never too old for a bedtime story, so why not end the day getting comfy with a book!
