This week’s Headteacher’s Award goes to Penny Hodgson in Year 8. Penny is not only an exceptional student who continually works hard in all her subjects, but she is a student who has been inspired by an experience in school and taken it to another level.
Penny has accumulated 1133 House Points to date; many have been for Learner of the Lesson and she is regularly awarded for displaying our core values both inside and ouside the classroom.
Penny is a dedicated member of the Dance and Drama Clubs, and was also part of the cast of The Little Shop of Horrors. She even took the plant props home and put her own creative flair on the designs, taking them to a professional standard.
As well as taking part in extracurricular in school, Penny successfully auditioned for the CAT dance scheme last year and recently took part in an Easter intensive. She auditioned to join the Centre for Advanced Training in Manchester after attending the CAT workshop at William Howard last year. Since September she has been training 10 hours per week with the CAT scheme. The training focuses on contemporary dance, though ballet and Pilates sessions are included. CAT has introduced her to many different teachers, choreographers and styles of dance. Currently, she is working with a renowned choreographer Miguel Altunaga on a summer show piece which will be performed in the Lowry Theatre.
Penny has shown that by taking the opportunities presented in school, it can lead to even greater things beyond the walls of WHS.
