In support of their forthcoming GSCE Options choices, Year 9 students had a careers information morning today to help them find out how subjects can link to possible career pathways. We had a range of employers in school to help illustrate the possibilities.
A representative from David Allen spoke about routes linked to mathematics, and Gen2 highlighted STEM subjects, apprenticeships, and the variety of local careers. Centerparcs spoke about part-time work and the various career routes within their business linked to sport, food technology, beauty and hospitality. The Armed Forces ran an interactive activity and discussed the range of roles available in the armed forces including medical, veterinary and music. We welcomed the NHS who have a range of opportunities linked to Health and Social and Science subjects (based on local labour market information, a skills gap is predicted in the NHS in the years ahead). Kendal College explained the difference between college and school, drawing attention to T- levels and Agricultural routes as many of our students aspire to farming careers.
Past WHS student, Maya Shimmin shared her experience of working in Performing Arts and the theatre, while current Sixth Form students gave an insight into studying A levels and how they lead to Higher Education routes such as University or Graduate Apprenticeships.
We are very grateful to all the representatives who came in to share their invaluable advice with our students.
