MP’s Visit

Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and the Border, visited William Howard School today. Dr Hudson had a tour of the Sixth Form Centre before taking part in a question and answer forum where Year 12 students asked him a range of questions linked to local, national and international issues as well as Conservative Party politics. He strongly encouraged the students to engage with the parliamentary process by contacting him about the issues affecting them.

The MP then met with Year 11 Young Farmers who spoke about the barriers they face pursuing a career in agriculture since the closure of Newton Rigg College, along with the issue of poor rural transport. Dr Hudson was sympathetic about the challenges the students encounter but was very impressed by their determination in finding alternative apprenticeships and courses further afield.
