New Extracurricular Activities Timetable

Dear Parents

I am delighted to inform you that there is a wide and exciting range of clubs and extra-curricular events now available for students of all year groups taking place regularly at school. I would like to take this opportunity to share these with you and encourage your child to maximise their outcomes by taking part. Extra-Curricular Timetable (Autumn 2021)

At William Howard School we place emphasis on character development and ensuring that success and enjoyment is not limited to the classroom. The benefits of extra-curricular participation are vast, including the acquisition of new friends, skills and memories. Participation in whole school events and clubs is also a very positive point of reference for future employment and further education providers.

I would ask, therefore, that you look at the extra-curricular timetable and discuss what may be of interest with your child this term and encourage them to participate in at least one activity.  The timetable outlines the days, times and activities for this half term. This is also published on the VLE. There will be regular updates about what is on offer as some clubs are seasonal and some opportunities are one off events. I would encourage your child to check the Student Bulletin on the VLE regularly for new opportunities or changes to the timetable.

On rare occasions, clubs may need to be cancelled, postponed or operate at different times and in alternative venues. This information will be available via the Bulletin. Students are encouraged to check for any changes.

We have been aware for a number of years that some students haven’t been able to access clubs due to not living on a bus route. This term (from 1st November) we are trialling a free mini-bus that will run at 4.15pm to Longtown, stopping outside the Library, with the capacity for optional stops at Newtown/Smithfield.  The bus is expected to arrive at Longtown around 4.40pm daily. The bus will operate most nights (when available and not being used for fixtures etc) and will have 14-16 places which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis for each day. Places can be booked by students by visiting the Main Office or parents can call Reception on 016977 45700. We advise that seating on the minibus should be booked at least one day in advance to avoid disappointment.

Staff are very much looking forward to welcoming students to their clubs. Please enjoy browsing through the opportunities and I hope to see as many students as possible enjoying what we have on offer for them. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at lo’connor@williamhoward.cumbria.sch.uk

Yours sincerely
