Poverty Proofing the School Day

Dear Parents

We have commissioned the charity Children’s North East to work with us to identify financial barriers to children’s learning. We all know that rising costs of living, stagnant wages and the introduction of Universal Credit are placing pressure on family finances and we would want to identity and remove any pressures on household income that may have a negative impact on your child’s education.

The charity will work with us on school to ensure that every child has the same opportunities during the school day regardless of financial constraints. They will be speaking to students and teachers in school and would like to get the view of parents too. Areas for discussion include trips, after school clubs, music tuition, uniform costs and how students access food.

The review will take place between Wednesday, 13 – Friday, 15 November 2019. Please complete the survey using the following link https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/G8ZBQL6. All responses are anonymous and you do not have to give your name.

Following the review, we will consider further actions that the school can put in to place to support parents and students at William Howard School to be the best they can be and fully engage with all school activities.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Mothersdale (Assistant Head – Vulnerable Students)
