Proposed Change to the Length of the School Day

Dear Parents

I am writing to inform you of some proposed changes to the times of our school day from September 2023. This is in line with the Government’s White Paper of March 2022 and DfE’s “Minimum expectation on length of the school week” information note, which state that schools should be open a minimum of 32.5 hours per week.

To ensure that we comply with this expectation, we are proposing to extend the school day by 15 minutes. This change will result in a 3.15pm finish time, instead of the current 3pm. The current and proposed times are shown below:

Proposed new school day from September 2023

  • Start time: 8.45am
  • Finish time: 3.15pm

Current school day

  • Start time: 8.45am
  • Finish time: 3.00pm

Currently we are discussing numerous options for how to ensure the extra 15 minutes will enhance our students’ school experience and we will communicate this in due course.

I appreciate that these changes may affect you in terms of childcare or working arrangements. For this reason, before making these changes to our school day in September 2023, I would like to hear any feedback you have in relation to these changes.

Feedback on the proposals can be sent to Please ensure that you send your feedback to us by Friday, 3 March 2023.

Yours faithfully

Ms Pigdon
Head of School
