Welcome to William Howard School Sixth Form

In the Sixth Form, our aim is to establish a learning culture that enables all students to reach or exceed their full potentials, through a continued focus on academic rigour, exceptional pastoral care, and access to a broad range of wider school opportunities. During their time in the Sixth Form, students will develop into self-regulated learners, who are equipped with the skills, values, and drive to flourish academically and as individuals. Their successes will be celebrated, and they will play an important role in the wider school.

Our Sixth Form offers a wide range of Level 3 courses that are carefully matched to the skills and aspirations of our students, and we offer a range of field trips to allow students to link their learning to the world around them. All students study a minimum of three Level 3 courses; comprising of either A Level or BTEC qualifications, alongside an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or Core Maths. In addition, students study Personal Development (PD) which covers a range of different topics that are relevant to their age group and are in line with PSHE Association guidance.

Students receive high quality teaching during their two years at William Howard School Sixth Form, and a team of highly skilled tutors are on hand to support them with their academic and pastoral needs. Alongside the academic and pastoral support, we promote a wealth of Student Leadership and enrichment activities and create opportunities for all students to immerse themselves in roles which support the wider school community.

We very much look forward to welcoming students into the Sixth Form and continue to be committed to supporting our young people to achieve success and prepare them for their next steps.

Supporting Students

We recognise that the transition between Year 11 and Year 12 is not always easy, and as such we offer a ‘Step-up to Sixth Form Programme’ as part of our Induction Week to support students prior to the start of their Sixth Form studies. We firmly believe that this will provide them with the tools and approach needed to make a successful start to Year 12.

All students receive Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) from our Level 6 trained Sixth Form Aspirations Coach, which is tracked at key points prior to and during their Sixth Form study. This enables our students to make well informed post-18 choices. In Year 12, all students take part in mock interviews, alongside Work Experience and we firmly believe that these opportunities will contribute to developing our students into well-rounded young people, equipped with the skills and attributes to support them in life beyond post-18 study. We pride ourselves on the support available to Sixth Form students throughout their time with us, and consistently attract students from other schools in the area.

Fantastic Facilities

Our Sixth Form Centre has excellent facilities for private and collaborative study. Students have access to a quiet study area with IT facilities during their study periods or more open facilities for collaborative work, including a seminar room which can be booked by students and staff.
