This half term, some classes in Year 7 have been learning about Dystopian fiction, reading extracts from George Orwell’s classic novel 1984. One of the more famous features of the novel which – along with the concept of Big Brother – that’s found its way into popular culture, is Room 101. In the novel, it’s the place where an individual’s fears are used to control them. However, the BBC TV programme asks celebrities to explain why their most hated and feared items should be cast into Room 101.
Last week, Ms Ledger hosted an episode of WHS Room 101 and Year 7 discussed the things they hate and their classmates voted on which item should be chucked into Room 101. From brussels sprouts to wasps, via four legged animals running away, the Go Compare advert and – inevitably – spiders, every class member shared their fears and horrors with confidence and wit.
