Table Cricket Triumph

Our table cricket team travelled to Durham cricket ground today to compete in the North-East Table Cricket finals following their success at the county competition back in March. What a day they had!

In their opening match they played against Cockermouth School who had been the only team to beat them in the county competition. They played a great opening game and won 249 runs to 233. They went on to play Collingwood School from Morpeth and won this game convincingly 250 runs to 195. Their final game before a break for lunch was against The Oaks from Durham. Our team played their best game so far winning 273 runs to 235. After lunch they played two further matches, the first match was against Cartmel School, the winners of the Cumbria County competition. At this point, both Cartmel and our team had won all three of their first matches and were tied. A lot rested on this game, and our team knew they needed to up their game. They didn’t disappoint, rising to the occasion and coming away with the win. Their final match was against Gibside School from Gateshead which they won with ease.

William Howard School were crowned the North-East Table Cricket Champions 2022. They were ecstatic and their excitement was evident on the bus journey all the way back to school. They now have the opportunity to compete in the National Finals at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London in June.

Congratulation to Andrew Kyle (captain), Jake Thorburn, Sarah Wallace, Archie Wood, Eve Palmer and Liam Collins.

A huge well done too to our Year 9 sports leaders, Huey Bailie, Daniel Beesley, Lewis Copely, Adian Salter and Rowan Shreeve who officiated. They were praised for their confidence and knowledge of the game and were once again a credit to the school.
