The WHS table cricket team travelled to Durham University to compete in the Lord’s Tavener’s North-East Regional Table Cricket Finals on Thursday 18th April.
To make it this far, the teams attending had had to do well both at their local competition and then at the county competition. Now there were just six teams competing for a place in the National Final at Lord’s in London. The teams were split between two pools and to gain a place at the final they had to top their pool.
Our team played really well and just missed out on a place in the final as they were narrowly beaten by Whinfell School, whose last batter scored an amazing 34 from his six bats. Whinfell went on to win the competition beating Cartmel School in the final, earning themselves a place in the national final for the second year running. William Howard won their third-fourth place play off with ease and so were placed third.
Congratulations to the team for playing so well and for being resilient. Well done to Andrew, Sarah, Samuel, Eve, Nicky, Levi, Emily and Lewis. Andrew captained the team and made some good calls.
Further congratulations goes to Sarah who was awarded the Spirit of Cricket Trophy.
Finally, a huge thank you to Mrs Bouch and Mrs Dixon for accompanying the students to the tournament.
