Tomorrow’s Engineers Robotic Challenge

In our now annual participation in the regional finals of the Tomorrows Engineers competition, nine of our students and Mr Gibson headed for the Nissan Skills Academy in Sunderland to show some pretty daring designs and face the challenges against other schools in the North East. We won a trophy last year for robot design, so the pressure was on. The teams had to build and program a LEGO Mindstorms robot to complete a speed test – there and back again across a set distance – and to complete a number of specific complicated tests on a mat that was provided. This included designing the robot to climb a very steep slope and drop a pingpong ball into a pot right at the top!

Overall we JUST missed the prize – but our students as usual acquitted themselves brilliantly and we as usual proved that William Howard School students really are some of the best.
