We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted for a 2021 Golden Apple Award in the Health & Wellbeing category.
The award category celebrates the huge strides being made to teach people of all ages the importance of staying fit and healthy, in body and mind. The winner is expected to demonstrate a real innovative approach to encouraging a healthy lifestyle and show the impact it’s had on peoples’ lives.
William Howard School were nominated because of their recent worked with Edukit to introduce a wellbeing app for students. The app is all about the promotion of positive wellbeing and is a one-stop-shop to support students with their wellbeing and personal development. It offers a whole range of resources and signposts to advice and support groups.
Throughout this difficult year, Mrs Mothersdale, our Mental Health & Wellbeing Lead, gave regular broadcasts to students offering valuable advice, reassurance and coping strategies. And last term, a group of WHS Year 12 students were at the forefront of research into mental health and wellbeing in schools. In collaboration with the University of Cumbria, the students conducted three research projects, devised and led by themselves.
For a number of years now, an important consideration in WHS has been looking after the Mental Health of both our students and our staff. Our WHS Wellbeing and Mental Health webpage gives lots of information and links to further sources of advice for parents & carers.
The winner of the award will be announced on October 7th at the annual awards dinner and presentation which takes place at Energus, Workington. Our best wishes go to all the nominees in this category for their work in this enormously important field.
