Leavers July 2022

William Howard School is a large rural non-select 11-18 mixed Academy. We are the only secondary school in the town of Brampton, and have a large catchment area, attracting students from the local area and beyond.

We have just over 200 students studying in our sixth form, and offer a large range of both A-level and Level 3 BTEC qualifications. Many of our students opt for a mixed academic profile, so chose to study a mixture of A-levels and BTEC qualifications.

The vast majority of students study three subjects in Year 12 and continue these subjects into Year 13.

Class sizes vary depending on the subjects being studied but can be as high as 25 in popular subjects, which for us include the STEM subjects.

As a school, the number of free school meal students is now 10% having seen an increase over the pandemic from 75 to 140.

This year group did not sit GCSE exams but were awarded a centre assessed grade. During lockdown from January to March students in Year 12 attended online lessons which mirrored their normal timetable. Attendance fort these session was excellent. Face to face teaching resumed week beginning 8th March and students sat mock exams in June – luckily, disruption during this period was minimal.
