WHS UCAS Supporting Information

William Howard School is a large rural non-select 11-18 mixed Academy. We are the only secondary school in the town of Brampton, and have a large catchment area, attracting students from the local area and beyond.

We have over 200 students studying in our sixth form, and offer a large range of both A-level and Level 3 BTEC qualifications. Many of our students opt for a mixed academic profile, so chose to study a mixture of A-levels and BTEC qualifications.

The vast majority of students study three subjects in Year 12 and continue these subjects into Year 13.

Class sizes range depending on the subjects being studied but can be as high as 25 in popular subjects.

As a school the number of free school meal students has increased from 75 to 120 in the past year.

During lockdown students in Year 12 attended on line lessons which mirrored the normal timetable from the start of lockdown for four weeks. This was then reduced to two lessons per subject for the remainder of the time. The last six weeks of the summer term students were able to come into school to receive face to face teaching. Attendance overall was excellent at these sessions.
