We are immensely proud of one of our Year 10 students and WHS Mountain Runner, Aoife M, who ran an extraordinary 150 miles throughout May to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK.
Alongside many shorter runs, Aoife completed several remarkable long distance routes. On 9th May, she ran over 40 miles from Lanercost to Keswick (via Caldbeck), accompanied by her dad and his friend. During the half term break, she added another 20 miles around Kielder Water, this time joined by her dad and her younger sister, Caoimhe (Y8).
Aoife reached her 150-mile target on Sunday evening with a final 5 mile run around Talkin Tarn.
So far, she has raised over £1,200 for Parkinson’s UK — a charity especially meaningful to her, as her grandfather lived with the disease. Anyone wishing to support Aoife’s inspiring fundraising effort can do so at: https://www.justgiving.com/page/aoifes150
This isn’t the first time Aoife has taken on such a challenge. Last year, she ran 100 miles in February, raising more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK. She explained that this year she wanted to push herself even further — and she certainly did. Despite sustaining a knee injury during the long Keswick run, Aoife remained determined to complete the demanding challenge she had set for herself.
Her resilience and commitment are truly admirable!
