DAY 1
Our Sixth Form English students arrived safely in London on Monday for the start of their cultural immersion. After dropping their bags at the hostel, they made their way down to the South Bank. Starting with a boat tour down the Thames, they then headed onto the London Eye. After a nervous start everyone enjoyed the amazing views of the city. A chance to explore some of the South Bank and a quick visit to the National Theatre followed. They finished the day with a ghoulishly good experience on the Ghost Bus before heading back to the hostel.
DAY 2
A busy day which started with a scavenger hunt of London’s landmarks in the rain. Team building fun at The Crystal Maze Experience followed, then it was off to see the longest running play in the world – The Mousetrap. Finally, headed to White Chapel for a Jack the Ripper tour.
Safe to say everyone was glad to get back to the hostel and head to bed!
DAY 3
The day began at The Houses of Parliament and a chance to talk to local MP Julie Minns followed by a short tour of the building.
Next stop: the British Library for a fascinating session on accents and dialects— with a focus on Cumbria – then a chance to look at some of the amazing texts the library holds in the ‘Treasures’ exhibit.
After some free time to shop and explore, they wrapped up the day watching The Devil Wears Prada.
DAY 4
Heading out early, the group made their way down to the river and the iconic Globe Theatre for a fantastic tour and workshop.
Borough Market was the lunch venue then along to Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral before heading back to the hostel for a short rest. Then it was off to Euston Station to catch the train home after a seriously jam-packed trip!
