Our sports hall was full of excited students on Monday for the CET Panathlon Multi-Sports Competition.
Seven teams from across the Trust’s Secondary Schools took part: three from William Howard School, two from Whitehaven Academy, one from Workington Academy and one from Kirkby Stephen Grammar School.
Debbie Davies from the children’s charity Panathlon arrived early to set up the activities and train our Year 12 and Year 9 Sports Leaders.
Just after 11.00am, the event got underway. Teams rotated around eight multi-sports stations — Boccia Blast, Table Cricket, New Age Kurling, Flight Path (target throw), Precision Bean Bag, Skittles, Slam Dunk and Football — aiming to score as many points as possible.
It was wonderful to see the students’ eagerness as they threw themselves into each activity, showing fantastic teamwork, encouraging one another and celebrating every success.
The competition concluded with a medal ceremony where every participant received a medal for their enthusiasm. Whitehaven Academy claimed gold, WHS Year 7 earned silver and Workington Academy took bronze.
Huge congratulations to all the students who took part: April, Harper, John K, John D, Callan, Jack, Lewis, Jacob, Jessica, Sienna, Fallyn, Mitsy, Autumn, Zayn, Amos, Isaac, Nicky, Ben, Leo, Joshua, Ava and Summer.
A big well done also goes to our Sports Leaders, who were a real credit to the school and received high praise from visiting staff: Olivia, Isla, Pearl, Emily, Mickey, Riley, Kaiden, Theo, Aidan, Elizabeth, Bella, Kate, Brooke, Daniel, Oliver, Luke, Matthew and Jack.
We extend a huge thank you to Debbie from Panathlon for leading the day, and to all the students and staff from every school who made the event such a success.
We look forward to hosting the event again next year!
