One of our Sixth Form students, Evie, had a very memorable day on Thursday, 5 June – as a member of the Hexham Brass band, she played for Queen Camilla during the royal visit to Hexham.
Evie plays solo horn and as well as being a committed member of the WHS orchestra, she has played with Hexham Brass since she was 13 years old.
Showing great resilience in the day’s torrential rain showers, the band played a variety of pieces from ‘Waka Waka’ and ‘Ticket to Ride’, to ‘Lincolnshire Poacher’ and ‘Parliament Street Blues’.
Evie said: “It was a really enjoyable experience playing for the Queen, despite the heavy rain. She seems to be a very nice person, and she thanked us for playing. It was lovely to see the community come together.”
