From 1st to 3rd July, WHS hosted its Step Up to Sixth Form programme, welcoming students for three days of preparation, exploration, and inspiration. The event brought together our current Year 11 students along with new starters joining us from other schools.
The programme featured a full timetable of subject taster sessions, allowing students to explore their chosen courses in more depth and experience the pace and expectations of post-16 learning. Alongside these, students were introduced to ‘Get Ahead’ tasks – bridging activities to support their transition and get them thinking ahead to September.
Students also took part in sessions on Unifrog, the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), Maths Studies, and Sports Leadership – showcasing the range of enrichment opportunities available at WHS Sixth Form to help them grow both academically and personally.
The three days ended with a fast-paced game of rounders, where students competed in teams. There was plenty of competitive spirit and laughter, and – luckily – the rain held off, making for a fantastic end to the week.
Miss Nicholls, Head of Sixth Form, said: “It’s been a pleasure to welcome our Year 11s – and new students – to our Step-up programme. The energy and engagement they’ve shown has been fantastic. We’re really excited to see what they’ll achieve in the Sixth Form!”
We’re incredibly proud of how our students embraced this experience. We look forward to celebrating their results in August and welcoming them officially into WHS Sixth Form in September as they begin this exciting new chapter.
