Pupils in our Year 8 and 9 Archaeology classes took part in an ‘archaeological mystery’. They analysed evidence from the Anglo-Saxon settlement site at Trumpington excavations in Cambridgeshire, focusing their investigation on a high-status grave. A recreation of the burial gave pupils the chance to examine the grave goods and develop their own interpretations about the life and identity of the individual buried there. The pupils learned the importance of collecting and analysing all the evidence available in order to come to sound interpretations and conclusions.
