On Thursday afternoon, we were delighted to welcome pupils from Caldew School for a friendly chess tournament.
Eighteen enthusiastic players represented WHS, competing in teams of seven with several reserves. An hour was filled with exciting matches, excellent sportsmanship and plenty of impressive play. The students thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Overall, WHS secured a fantastic 46-23 victory. Congratulations goes to Ollie G, who was named MVP after winning all of his games in remarkable time. Phoebe S was the highest-placed female player, achieving an excellent score of 4.5/6.
Special recognition also goes to Stanley W, who, despite being in Year 7, won every one of his games. Other players with perfect records included Robert B, Reuben D, Ivan S, Daniel N, and Charlie M, all of whom won all of their matches.
Well done to all the players from both schools for making the tournament such an enjoyable event. We look forward to more friendly competitions in the future.
