As part of our ongoing commitment to outdoor learning, a group of 24 enthusiastic students took part in an exciting raft building session led by Talkin Adventures on Monday, 9 June. This provided a fantastic opportunity for students to develop practical skills, build confidence, and strengthen teamwork, all while having plenty of fun out on the water!
The day began with an introduction to the basics of raft construction. Under the guidance of the experienced Talkin Adventures team, students learned how to use ropes, barrels and wooden poles to design and assemble a raft sturdy enough to carry them safely around the tarn.
Once the rafts were ready, the real adventure began. Equipped with paddles, the teams tested their creations on the water, working together to navigate, balance, and, in some cases, stay afloat! It was great to see the students communicate effectively, solve problems, and support each other to achieve a common goal.
Beyond the practical skills of building and paddling a raft, the session was a brilliant exercise in teamwork and resilience. Each student played an important role in ensuring their raft was secure and that their team could work in sync on the water.
The energy and engagement throughout the day were fantastic, with smiles and laughter echoing around the tarn. It was clear that everyone took on the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed this unique learning experience.
A big well done to all the students for their enthusiasm and effort, and a huge thank you to Talkin Adventures for delivering such a memorable session.
We can’t wait for our next outdoor adventure which will be an overnight expedition in the Lake District.
Before we break up for the summer holidays, Water Safety assemblies are being planned for each year group.
