Our Sixth Form Aspirations Coach Sam Meakin had an incredible experience yesterday in her other coaching role. Mrs Meakin is an assistant coach for the County’s Women’s Rugby team, working with the forwards, and the Head Coach for Women’s and Girls’ teams at Carlisle Rugby Club.
The Cumbria Women’s team played Devon yesterday, at the home of England rugby – Twickenham, after winning their three games in the pool of the Gill Burns Rugby County Championship (Staffordshire 50-28, Oxfordshire 97- 0 and Essex 24-22).
Although they didn’t win, Mrs Meakin said: “I am still buzzing! As such an avid rugby fan, it was an opportunity of a lifetime. To coach at Twickenham and to go down the tunnel and onto the pitch was incredible. We have a fantastic team of players, and they did so well but the score [53-12] didn’t reflect the effort and grit they showed.”
She added, “I’m already hoping we’ll make it again next year. Devon lost last year but won this one, so who knows!”
