The Château de Warsy visit was fabuleux! When they arrived on Friday 5th July, one of the students said: “Wow! This is like being in a fairytale!” The château did not disappoint, and the students were amazed by the chic bathrooms and loved playing football in the grounds outside the château.
The group of students were immersed in French culture and tasted all sorts of French cuisine. They learnt where goat’s cheese comes from and even milked a goat! The cute kittens were a big hit and were given lots of cuddles! They tasted snails and saw how they were reared in the snail farm. They chanted the ingredients for croissants and baguettes and had conversations with the boulanger (baker). They also practised speaking in Amiens market where they successfully completed a shopping challenge – asking questions in French. They even managed to squeeze in some history in the caves at Naours where they enjoyed an audio tour. Everyone loved the Chocolaterie and sampling chocolate made with beans from their own plantation.
The highlight of the trip for most students was Disneyland Paris. They went on ride after ride and Mrs Harris exclaimed: “I don’t think I was the only one who laughed so much my sides hurt!” Top favourites were ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Hyper Space’ – both were crazy loop-de-loop rollercoasters, or montagnes russes in French!
Before travelling home, they let off steam at the beach with a game of volleyball, then had a stop at a huge French hypermarket to buy snacks and gifts to take home.
Un grand merci to the staff who cared for all the students during their time away from home – what a great team! Well done to the students who had to show resilience at times, primarily when the ferry was delayed. Mrs Harris added: “It was wonderful to share the experience with them and watch their confidence grow in listening to and speaking French!”
