House Day provided a fantastic finale to the academic year, with William Howard School awash with a flourish of green, blue, yellow and red as students proudly wore the colours of their houses.
Throughout the day, students from every year group took part in a wide range of challenges and activities, all competing to earn valuable house points for both House Day and the coveted annual House Cup. From tackling the assault course and testing their problem-solving skills in the escape room, to showing creativity with biscuit decorating and taking on the ever-popular bucking bronco, students threw themselves into every challenge with enthusiasm and determination.
After a successful morning and afternoon of activities, the entire school made its way to the bottom field for the traditional Sports Day races. The atmosphere was electric as students cheered on their peers, creating a wonderful sense of community and house spirit.
Just after 3pm, Ms Pigdon announced the winners of House Day, with Vindolanda emerging victorious after an outstanding team effort. However, there was still one major announcement to come – the winner of the Annual House Cup.
Tensions rose as the final standings were revealed. As fourth and third places were announced, anticipation grew among students and staff alike. After a closely fought contest across the year, it was Vindolanda who once again took the glory, securing the Annual House Cup and capping off an amazing achievement.
The victory was a fitting tribute to House Head Mr Tanner, who hands over the House Head baton to Ms Tilbrook as he bids a fond farewell to William Howard School after five years of dedicated service. Ending his tenure with both the House Day title and the House Cup made the occasion even more special.
As always, House Day proved to be a fantastic way to bring the school community together and a memorable end to the academic year. With smiles all around, staff and students exchanged wishes for a happy summer holiday before being dismissed from the field for one final time this academic year.
Congratulations to Vindolanda, and thank you to all students and staff who helped make House Day such a memorable success. We wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable summer break.
