Congratulations to our Table Cricket Team, who were one of three finalists for Junior Team of the Year 2026 at the Cumbria Sports Awards.
Last Thursday, the whole team travelled to Workington to attend the Awards Ceremony at Energus, the Premier Events Venue. They dressed up for the occasion and enjoyed a wonderful evening. The students were treated to a delicious three‑course meal and had the chance to meet many of the other nominees. Despite the largely adult audience, they were made to feel very welcome, with lots of guests keen to learn more about how table cricket is played.
After dinner, the presentations began, hosted by Mike Zeller of Radio Cumbria. The team listened attentively as each category was announced and winners were invited onto the stage.
In the Junior Team of the Year category, the other nominees were Aspatria Hornets U13s and Thomlinson Junior School’s Year 6 Girls’ Football Team. All three teams have had remarkable sporting journeys over the past year. On the night, the award went to Thomlinson Junior School. Although our students were naturally disappointed, they recognised that being shortlisted as a finalist was an achievement in itself.
Following the main awards, our team was invited onto the stage for a short presentation and photographs, bringing the evening to a lovely close.
We are immensely proud of them. They have enjoyed another outstanding year in table cricket and thoroughly deserved their place at this prestigious event.
Congratulations to all nominees and winners, and thank you to Energus for hosting, to Fibrus Broadband for sponsoring, and to everyone involved in organising such a memorable evening.
