Cross Country
A huge well done to all WHS runners who took part in the Cumbria County Cross Country Championships at Cartmel. It was a tough, wet and cold day, but every single athlete showed incredible resilience, determination, and team spirit throughout the course.
We are especially proud to celebrate our top finishers, who delivered exceptional performances on the challenging terrain:
- Elena A – Intermediate Girls
- Aoife M – Intermediate Girls
- Elliot M – Intermediate Boys
- Frankie F – Junior Girls
- Charlotte H – Junior Girls
- Ellie T – Minor Girls
- Max B – Minor Boys
- Blake K – Minor Boys
These athletes have earned selection to represent Cumbria at the Northern Counties XC Championships on 7th February – an amazing achievement and well deserved! A huge congratulations to all students who competed—your effort and attitude were first class.
Netball
Our Year 7 and 8 Netball teams played a friendly fixture against RR Morton Academy on Thursday. The Year 8A team put in a strong performance from the start, linking up play in every area of the court. This resulted in a dominant performance with WHS winning 13-0. Our 8B team grew in confidence throughout their game and some excellent shooting by Ellie in the final half secured another victory for William Howard, 4-0.
Our Year 7s have shown excellent commitment to training this year and it is great to see so many students enjoying playing Netball! The 7A team had a very strong start, scoring 10 goals in the first half. Morton came back strongly, however William Howard continued to put pressure on their opponents, winning the game 12-4. Our 7B team are continuing to develop both their skill level and tactical awareness and it was great to see them grow in confidence as the game progressed. Morton were the winners of this game, but we are so proud of how are student played.
