With the football world gripped by World Cup fever, it was the turn of William Howard’s very own soccer superstars to grace the footballing stage. Following the return of the WHS cup, two star-studded lineups came head-to-head as England faced the Rest of the World at lunchtime today.
Played in front of an enthusiastic packed crowd, both teams started brightly in the heat. It was the ROTW who were first to break the deadlock with a stunning goal from Ms Aitchison, and soon after, doubled their lead thanks to Mr Trewhitt. Towards the end of the first half, they extended their lead to three.
Soon into the second half, England sparked the beginning of a comeback as Mrs Beaumont scored a Beckham-esque goal from the halfway line! Unfortunately for the Three Lions, any hopes of a comeback were stifled by a ROTW defence that appeared to have taken inspiration from England’s performance against Mexico on Monday morning!
England may have lost the battle for staff-room bragging rights, but with the World Cup in the US gathering real momentum, there’s still hope that the nation’s Three Lions can go one step further and bring the trophy home.
