There are 75 Fire Cadet places countywide, and eight William Howard students have successfully secured theirs at Carlisle East Fire Station for the March 2026 intake.
Last night (3rd March) they began their nine-week basic training course (Tuesday evenings 6-9pm), which culminates with a passing out parade.
If the students are successful through their basic training, they will have the opportunity to enrol on a nationally recognised Fire Cadets Awards Level 1 & 2, opening pathways for further learning and accreditation in the future.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service recently advertised the opening of four new units across the county – Carlisle East, Whitehaven, Millom and Barrow – to run alongside an existing unit in Workington.
We wish them well and look forward to hearing about their journey in due course.
