Hollywood Bowl was already full of students smiling and bubbling with excitement when our two Year 7 teams arrived to compete in the North Cumbria Panathlon Tenpin Bowling Challenge on Wednesday. They couldn’t wait to bowl!
This has now become an annual event with secondary schools attending from all over North Cumbria, an event looked forward to by so many students. Every lane was taken!
Our Year 7s chose their own teams and decided to compete boys against girls. They all played really well. The boys sped through their game finishing way before the girls and were convinced they had the better score, but the girls took their time and gradually built up their points, just pipping the boys to it with their last few bowls. The students all displayed excellent team spirit – supporting, encouraging and congratulating each other. They were a real credit to William Howard.
Congratulations to all our students who took part – Isla, April, Harper, Evangeline, Francesca, Izzy, Jack, Lewis, John D, John K and Callan. They didn’t take the top spots, but they all came away with medals and certificates and smiles on their faces.
An extra special congratulations to Evangeline. She was the only student from William Howard to get a Strike and was the top scorer for the school with over 100 points. As one of only a few students at the event to achieve this, she was presented with a special certificate for joining the Panathlon 100 Club.
Well done to all the schools who took part and congratulations to St John Henry Newman Catholic School, Ullswater Community College and Branthwaite Academy who took the top three places.
Thank you to Panathlon, Kirsty Williamson from Active Cumbria and Karen Cook, Carlisle School Games Organiser for organising the event.
We look forward to attending again next year!
