We are delighted to welcome Alan Wilson as our new Enterprise Advisor through the Careers and Enterprise Council.
Alan brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to the table. Originally from Carlisle, Alan began his career as an apprentice Mechanical Engineer at Pirelli, and after 42 years of service, he’s returned to his hometown as Production Manager, overseeing Pirelli’s operations in the UK. Alan is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the company’s two factories, in Carlisle and Burton on Trent, which together produce 10,000 tyres daily. His role includes overseeing the installation of machinery that manufactures these tyres, as well as introducing innovations to improve products and expand production.
With a focus on developing future projects, Alan’s work is critical in meeting customer demands, including efforts to reduce energy consumption and increase tyre efficiency. His deep expertise in manufacturing, apprenticeships, and the skills required in the industry will provide expert guidance to students, especially in considering apprenticeships as an alternative career route.
Tracey Hill, our Careers Lead, said: “We are delighted that Alan is working with the careers team. We are keen to support students with apprenticeships alongside academic routes and Alan has extensive knowledge and experience of recruiting and training apprentices, his advice will be invaluable to our students.”
We look forward to the contributions Alan will make in helping our students explore new career pathways.
