On Thursday, our students headed outdoors to take part in our annual Character Development Day, enjoying valuable time with friends while developing our nine key character qualities: positivity, empathy, virtue, courage, passion, curiosity, independence, collaboration and honour.
Our Year 7 students enjoyed a fun-packed visit to Walby Farm Park, while Year 8 had an action-filled day at Whinlatter. Some embraced the challenge of mountain biking and the Go Ape course, while others took a more leisurely route, soaking up the stunning scenery on a walk to Seat How.
For Year 9, the day involved an impressive ten-mile walk along Hadrian’s Wall, giving students plenty of opportunity to chat, connect and enjoy the beautiful surroundings as they made their way from Gilsland back to school.
Year 10 made the most of one of our area’s best-loved natural landmarks, walking from school to Talkin Tarn and taking part in a range of activities, including kayaking.
Meanwhile, Year 12 were rewarded with breathtaking views across Derwent Water after completing their fell walk up Walla Crag.
Students who remained on site also enjoyed a varied day of activities. One of the highlights was a special visit from Pet Encounter Cumbria – it’s not every day there’s an opportunity to hold a python or meet a meercat!
