Three of our Trust schools got together yesterday to compete in the very first Cumbria Education Trust inclusive sports event which we hosted at William Howard School.
Debbie Davies from Panathlon came along to set up the activities for the Panathlon Xtend Multi-Sports event, before training some of our Year 9 Sports Leaders in how to run each of the eight stations.
From 11.00am, the sports hall filled with excited students. There were seven teams in all: two from Whitehaven Academy; two from Workington Academy; and three from William Howard School.
For the next couple of hours, the students were kept very busy moving from one activity to the next, gaining as many points as they could for their teams, ably led by our Year 9 Sports Leaders. A wonderful, happy hubbub ensued as students cheered each other on.
Whitehaven and Workington teams took the top three spots, but our students should not be discouraged as they all got involved, gave it their all and had fun. Most importantly, great kindness and support for teammates was displayed throughout the day.
Well done to the WHS students who competed – Jessica, Sienna, Fallyn, Mirissa, Ben, Blake, Isaac, Nicky, Joshua, Amos, Hunter, Liam, Leo, Zayn and Max from Year 7, and Alyssa, Paige, Sacha, Rebecca, Payton, George, Bailey, and Lewis from Year 8.
We are extremely proud of our Year 9 Sports Leaders too – Elena, Georgina, Amy, Caitlin, Thea, Emily, Lucy, Hattie, Isla, Harry, Liam, Kayden, Luke, Aiden, Harvey and Charlie. They led impressively and staff from the other schools commented on how kind and helpful they were towards their students.
Finally, thank you to Debbie Davies from Panathlon. Everyone agreed it would be great to book her again for next year!
