We welcomed in Louise Quinn and Alicia McKenna of Shotton Hall Research Institute, who are working with us to develop an additional strand to our reading intervention, on Friday 14th February.
Currently, our Key Stage 3 Tier 2 readers are part of an established intervention, meeting on Mondays and Fridays during tutor time with their trained Sixth Form Reading Coaches. This has proved to be a positive and impactful experience for all involved – both the readers and the coaches.
Louise and Alicia are now helping to implement a peer mentoring strategy with Year 9 students leading the coaching of a new cohort of Year 7 pupils at Tier 2 level.
Mrs O’Connor, Assistant Headteacher, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for the Year 9 students to further develop their character and leadership skills, as well as be part of a very worthwhile initiative to actively help other students.”
