We are incredibly proud of our students who have successfully secured highly sought-after ‘Dream Placements’ after a rigorous and highly competitive selection process involving employers from across the region. With over 300 applications received, just 133 students invited to the final interview stage, and 17 students proudly representing our school, reaching this stage alone was a remarkable achievement.
‘Dream Placement’ is a programme organised by the Centre for Leadership Performance. It is a unique collaboration between educators, businesses, and young people, offering essential leadership development opportunities for applicants aged 16-18. The week-long placements, helping young people make informed choices about their future, take place during February half-term.
To get this far, students first completed detailed application forms which were reviewed by a panel of industry judges. Shortlisted candidates were then invited to a formal selection event held at Energus in Lillyhall, near Workington. This event closely mirrored a real-world recruitment day, giving students invaluable experience of professional recruitment processes. On the day, students were interviewed by leading local employers, showcasing not only their academic strengths but also their confidence, communication skills, and motivation for their chosen career paths.
Throughout the process, students also took part in online employability and development events, helping them to refine their CVs, improve interview techniques and gain a deeper understanding of the world of work. Even students who were not shortlisted were offered detailed feedback from the judging panel, ensuring every applicant could learn and develop from the experience.
Natalie Nicholls, Assistant Headteacher (Sixth Form) remarked: “Successfully securing a Dream Placement is a significant achievement and a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and ambition of our students. These placements will provide invaluable real-world experience, industry connections, and a powerful step forward towards future careers.”
