Year 7 Netball
Well done to our Year 7 Netball teams who took part in the Carlisle District Tournament on Wednesday. They competed in a round robin of games against seven other teams from the Carlisle area.
Our A team took a few matches to settle into the tournament, and despite some excellent defending and interceptions they were struggling to get the ball down the court. However, in the third game some good link up play from defence to attack, alongside some more accurate shooting allowed WHS to get their first win. From then, their confidence grew and they finished in 4th place with 4 wins.
Our B team demonstrated excellent resilience and determination throughout the tournament. Against strong opposition they worked well together showing excellent effort levels in every game. We can see their confidence and games understanding improving in every fixture.
Great work everyone! We are so proud of the progress you have made this year!
Year 7 Football
Over 20 Year 7 footballers braved the cold and wet conditions last night in their matches against RR Central Academy. Game 1 was a close match with William Howard winning 2-1 thanks to two goals from Finn M. In Game 2, WHS won comfortably with goals from Curtis, Harry and Rory. Well done to all Year 7s who have trained and represented the school team this year. Top Effort!
Sixth Form Football
The Sixth Form football team had their final match of the season against RRCA this week with the scoreline ending 3-3. Top effort from Shaun Petry scoring a hat trick and Well Done to Angus Peace who stepped in as manager.
Boccia
WHS was delighted to host the Carlisle and Eden Secondary Boccia Competition on Thursday. By 10:30am, the sports hall was buzzing with excitement as ten teams from five schools—Richard Rose Central, Richard Rose Morton, Newman, Appleby and William Howard—competed for a place in the County Final this May.
Teams were divided into two pools, with each team having the opportunity to play every opponent in their group. After a series of competitive league matches, the winners of each pool battled for gold and silver, while the second‑placed teams contested bronze. Meanwhile, the remaining teams enjoyed some friendly matches.
William Howard entered two teams, both of whom played well. One team progressed to the final, delivering an exceptional performance to secure first place against a side from Richard Rose Central. They will now go on to compete at the County Competition in Penrith this May.
Thank you to all the schools who took part and made this such a fun day of Boccia. The level of Boccia being played improves every year!
A huge well done to Amy, Eve, Harry and Amos, and special congratulations to Samuel, Bailey, Mitsy and Zayn on their success and excellent sportsmanship.
The event would not have been possible without the support of our brilliant Year 8 sports leaders, Vlad for officiating throughout the day, and former students Andrew and Connor, who kindly returned to assist. We also extend our deepest thanks to Debbie Davies from Panathlon for delivering such an inspiring event.
