Sixth Form student Grace Little undertook a Dream Placement recently as part of the scheme run by the Centre for Leadership Performance.
Grace reported:
“During my dream placement I spent 5 days at Paragon Vets, observing leadership and shadowing in many different aspects of the company. Not only did I get to watch the day to day running, I was also given plenty of opportunities to get involved where possible. I was able to view embryos under microscopes and make up straws for embryo transfer, using discarded embryos. This must have been the highlight of my week! I got to see something from every side of the practice: equine, large animal, small animal and advanced breeding. I helped in finance, coordinating, reception and dispensary, as well as going on farm visits and shadowing in clinics.
During the week I was given a talk about sustainability within the practice and about different schemes Paragon are involved in. I also got the opportunity to interview a client as part of the project that had been set over the week, in which I had to promote acupuncture. By Friday I had designed a poster and created a presentation which I presented to 5 staff members. This was followed by feedback and questions from both sides, which I found very useful. Overall, I had a great week. I would recommend to anyone to consider applying for the Dream Placement scheme.”
