Next July, our local area will proudly host a stage of the 2027 Tour de France, one of the world’s most celebrated sporting events followed by millions globally.
This week, we were delighted to welcome Mark Fryer, Leader of Cumberland Council, who spoke to our A Level PE students about the impact of hosting such a major global event. His talk linked directly to the students’ A Level curriculum, which explores the advantages and disadvantages of staging international sporting events.
Mark shared a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how Cumberland secured its place in the Tour and discussed the extensive preparation already underway. He also spoke about the long-term legacy hoped for in Cumbria once the event has passed through.
Our students took the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about the environmental, social and economic impact the Tour might have on the region. The session offered valuable insights and provided students with key information they can now apply in their A Level work.
We are already looking forward to next July and seeing the Tour come right past our school!
