Sadie Bell is our April Alumna of the month. After leaving William Howard in 2019, she took a gap year to try different career options as she felt A level study in Sixth Form was not the right path for her.
Sadie had hoped to find something she would enjoy during this time and was not afraid to try new things in search of the right career pathway. However, she learned more about what she didn’t want to do, which actually helped her focus on what she had been passionate about when she was at school – English and Media. During her time at William Howard she was part of the extracurricular student radio team, supported by Mrs Gregory. Reflecting on this, Sadie decided to pursue a career in broadcasting. After applying for a BBC apprenticeship, and months of interviews, she was offered a full-time place on the course.
Since graduating from the apprenticeship, Sadie is now a Freelance Assistant Producer/ Journalist for the BBC, which she really enjoys. During her time at the BBC, Sadie has worked in Religion and Ethics, and Consumer Affairs. She is currently working on ‘You & Yours’, as well as producing episodes of the World Service’s ‘Pick of the World’.
Sadie’s advice to students is: “There are so many options after leaving school, if you know something isn’t right for you there’s nothing wrong with changing it up!”
