Our Alumnus for December is Jack Swindlehurst. Jack left William Howard School in 2008 following Sixth Form, where he absolutely loved his time studying Theatre Studies, spending most of his days between the theatre and the music department. He was lucky enough to go on six trips with various bands, playing the trumpet, and even travelled to Prague with Mrs Kipling’s choir.
Jack said that it was great to have enrichment available alongside his studies, as it was completely acceptable to play football one day and be in the band the next — Jack said “WHS was a fun, supportive, and open-minded place for him to grow up”
After leaving WHS, Jack studied Broadcast Journalism at Nottingham Trent University and later moved south to Cambridge. He worked in community radio alongside working at Cambridge University for many years, and also hosted a podcast about Cambridge United.
He went on to work as Events Manager at Alzheimer’s Research UK, contributing to major events such as the London Marathon and hosting the organisation’s yearly Research Conference. Jack said “It was incredibly rewarding and eye-opening work — even though I wasn’t a science specialist, meeting some of the world’s leading dementia researchers was truly humbling.”
His message for WHS students: “Stick at it, school doesn’t always feel easy, but WHS is a brilliant school that produces brilliant people. Embracing every opportunity helped shape his own career pathway.”
