Year 8 have been writing ballads based on historical events in their English lessons.
Using the conventions of the ballad form – including a regular rhyme scheme and meter and a repeated chorus or refrain – students have recounted various fascinating historical tales ranging from the abolition of slavery, Napolean’s defeat at Waterloo and the ghastly crimes of Burke and Hare.
Ms Ledger commented: “Struggling to find the words that fit the rhyme scheme and the meter are all part of the challenge – but Year 8 have risen to it magnificently!”
