We are thrilled to announce that William Howard School has been awarded a Gold Medal from Cumbria in Bloom.
The award, which is part of Britain in Bloom, is the highest possible accolade and was presented in the Secondary School category. In fact, WHS was the only school in the Northwest to receive this honour.
Our Open Spaces team, tirelessly led by Ms Booker, greatly impressed the judges who spoke incredibly highly of their time spent at William Howard School. They were particularly excited by our students’ engagement, knowledge and enthusiasm for the environment and farming.
In their assessment, the judges described our Open Spaces area as “A hive of activities linked to horticulture, animal husbandry, informed use and conservation of the environment, financial sustainability, and an on-going range of innovative projects. [] An excellent project and so good to see not only what it achieves now but ideas and concepts for the future.”
The popularity of the Open Spaces activities is ever growing with our students, and we are deeply grateful to the staff who support and help run this vibrant aspect of school life.
